At Cook's Island Bus Passenger Transport Ltd, we’re all about getting you where you need to go, comfortably and affordably, around beautiful Rarotonga!
We operate a regular public bus service along Ara Tapu, the main road circling the island. It’s the easiest way to experience Rarotonga at your own pace.
Here’s how it works:
- Catch the Bus: Simply wait along Ara Tapu – even if you’re not at a designated bus stop – and wave us down! We stop anywhere safe along the route.
- Choose Your Direction: We run both clockwise and anticlockwise routes.
- Clockwise: Buses depart Cook’s Corner (our main terminal in Avarua town) on the hour, from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM, Monday to Saturday.
- Anticlockwise: Buses depart Cook’s Corner every half hour from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM Monday to Friday, and until 1:30 PM on Saturdays.
- Tell the Driver: Once on board, just let the driver know where you’re headed. They know the island well and will happily assist you.
- Pay as You Go: Tickets are purchased on the bus with NZD cash directly from the driver.
- Island Loop: A full circuit of the island takes approximately 50 minutes to 1 hour.
Arriving in Rarotonga and heading to Avarua? No problem! Both our clockwise and anticlockwise routes pass through Avarua. Just let the driver know you’re going to Avarua when you board to ensure you’re on the right bus.
We pride ourselves on providing a reliable and convenient service, with the flexibility to stop wherever you need along the main road. We look forward to welcoming you aboard!
